Best way to do a tour of the USA? Have considered renting a car, Greyhound buses….?

Question by herbie_driver: Best way to do a tour of the USA? Have considered renting a car, Greyhound buses….?
Hi.
Next year we are doing a three-month tour of the USA (as part of a round-the-world trip). We are from the UK. We are arriving into San Francisco and driving all the way across to Boston, Massachusetts.
At first we considered renting an RV, but the cost was astronomical for that length of time. So then we downsized to a car, and this is also very expensive when you add in the one-way fees and fuel costs.
So are current idea is the greyhound buses for most of the trip, with a car rental for one week for the old “route 66″ bit between Flagstaff and Oklahoma City. Also there are several stretches on the Greyhound buses that are overnight, so we would save money on hotels for a few nights.

What do you think of this method, what are the Greyhound buses like? Does anyone have any other ideas of how we might travel?

Thanks!

Greyhound buses are a great way to save money on travel, but they’re not the most comfortable sleeping arrangements, so give yourself a few nights of rest in an actual bed for every night you spend on a bus.

Other than that, it sounds like you have a great trip planned already! Enjoy.

Route 66, the TV series. 1960 v. 2007?

Question by beatle1909: Route 66, the TV series. 1960 v. 2007?
I’m watching the adventures of Todd and Buzz, traveling cross country, with a job waiting for them in every town, not to mention a place to live, but that was 1960. Could you replicate their experience today, over the span of say two years? Would it be worth it, if you could. And since there no longer is a Route 66, what would be your Route/Interstate Hwy of choice?

Best answer:

Answer by baserunner316
the prob with with 07 series is that it’s the same story over and over and not about being on the road. I wouldn’t do route 66 but these are places I always wanted to see:

the southwest especially the anazi ruins, roswell and area51

that place in texas that has the steak eating contest

washington, dc

the bar in alaska that has the bar where you drink shots with a guy’s toe in it.

What do you think? Answer below!

Greensource CEO Addresses Sustainable Apparel at Antioch University Seattle January 21

Seattle, WA (Vocus) January 20, 2010

David Basson, CEO of organic apparel manufacturer Greensource , will discuss the numerous steps the company has taken to develop sustainable apparel at an Antioch University Seattle event Thursday, January 21, 2010, from 7-9 p.m. Specifically, he will address how Greensource integrates environmental, social, and economic benefits into its production of trendy and affordable jeans and tops that are certified to the Global Organic Textile Standard and sold at major retailers such as Walmart (?Faded Glory?), Kmart (?Route 66?), and Kohl?s (?ReGen?).

The lecture, entitled ?Transforming the Global Footprint of American Business,? is hosted by the Network for Business Innovation & Sustainability and at the Antioch University Seattle, 2326 Sixth Avenue, Room 100. It is free and open to the public.

Apparel magazine named Greensource a ?Sustainability All-Star? in 2009 with the editors noting that Greensource?s ?field-to-shelf involvement in creating a more eco-friendly supply chain is particularly focused on keeping toxic pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, and defoliants out of the water we drink, the food we eat, and the air we breathe.?

Global retail sales of organic cotton apparel and home textile products reached an estimated $ 3.2 billion in 2008, according to the Organic Cotton Market Report 2009 by the non-profit organization Organic Exchange. According to the report, Greensource is the ninth largest designer and manufacturer of organic cotton apparel in the world. If its considerable private label production for major retailers were taken into account, the company would actually rank much higher.

Other speakers include:

Karl Ostrom, Co-Director of the Network for Business Innovation & Sustainability (NBIS)
David Okrent, Brand Director, Environment and Sustainability, The Boeing Company
Dennis Gawlik, Faculty, Bainbridge Graduate Institute and Director of Purchasing Services, University of Washington.
Valerie Bone, Director of Quality/Corporate Social Responsibility, Pacific Market International

About Greensource:

Greensource, a trend-forward apparel design and manufacturing company based in Seattle, WA, is one of the nation?s largest suppliers of private-label and branded apparel made with organic cotton. OrganicInStock.com, a division of Greensource, is a large supplier of certified organic cotton blank T-shirts for the men?s, women?s, and children?s markets.

Looking south from the arch there are two bridges. The closer one is the old Route 66 passage, which has many other names: I-70, I-64, I-55, I-44, and US40. It is known as the Poplar Street Bridge, or more officially, the Bernard F. Dickmann Bridge.

The truss bridge in the background was named after General Douglas MacArthur. Construction started in 1909 but didn’t open until 1917.
